Yokota Air Base is located in Tokyo's western suburbs, and they open their gates a few times a year for public events. One of them is the Sakura Spring Festival, which celebrates the promenade of cherry blossom trees lining the road towards the base's east gate. The event is also a celebration of U.S-Japan relations and the friendship the base has with the local community.
Along with the blossoms to appreciate, the event is set to include local farmer's market vendors, Japanese and American foods available to purchase, various forms of entertainment, and an array of other activities. Both US dollars and yen are accepted as a means of payment from vendors.
Entrance to the event is free of charge.
Getting there
The event takes place along McGuire Avenue, which is the road leading to Yokota Air Base's East Gate. The gate can be accessed in around 10 minutes by taxi or 30 minutes on foot from Seibu-Tachikawa Station, which is served by the Seibu Haijima Line.
