Daigyo-ji Temple in Yanaka

A quiet sanctuary to escape the city bustle

Just down the road from SCAI: The Bathhouse art gallery in Tokyo's peaceful Yanaka district, Daigyo-ji is a small, charming Buddhist temple, a nice place to just sit quietly and allow the calm atmosphere to soothe your mind.

There's an elegant wooden worship hall in the well-tended grounds, and in among the greenery you'll find a range of interesting statues, some worn and weathered, some of more recent vintage.
