Taking part in a trail run is a way to truly challenge both body and mind. From uneven terrain to ever-changing landscapes, these kind of events push physical limits while promoting resilience and endurance. The Hiroshima Wangan Trail Run is one such event, and takes place on a loop-style mountain trail adjacent to the city.
The 109 kilometer course has a cumulative altitude of approximately 6,900 meters, and participants run both day and night to try and reach the finish within the 34 hour time limit.
This is a pricier event, with the participation fee set at 38,000 yen – fees do go towards maintenance of the course, however. Entries open up on October 2nd, and more information about securing your spot can be found on the official website here.
Getting there
The event starts and finishes from Hiroshima Gate Park, which can be accessed in just a minute on foot from Hiroshima Electric Railway's Genbaku Dome-mae tram stop, or two minutes on foot from the Kamiyacho Nishi stop.
