Back in 1953, the Fukui Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Fukui City Tourism Association planted thousands of cherry blossom saplings along the embankment of the Asuwa River. Those saplings grew into beautiful trees, and the banks of the river have since been selected as one of the 100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan.
While the blossoms are at their best, the Fukui Cherry Blossom Festival is held. The event includes illuminations along the Asuwa River and several other locations around JR Fukui Station, along with foods available for purchase, performances, and more.

Getting there
JR Fukui Station is served by various lines, including the Hokuriku Main LIne, the Etsumi-Hoku Line, the Katsuyama Eiheiji Line, the Mikuni Awara Line, and the Fukubu Line.
The station will also be part of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line extension which is estimated to be completed in spring of 2024.
