EXPO 2027 YOKOHAMA is an international horticultural exposition dedicated to advancing sustainability, urban greening, and the integration of flowers and agriculture into daily life. Bringing together global participants, the event will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and showcasing innovative solutions to environmental challenges, regional revitalization, and sustainable living.
Under the theme "Scenery of the Future for Happiness," EXPO 2027 is set to emphasize the essential role of nature in shaping a resilient and harmonious society. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Expo will introduce a Japanese model of ecological coexistence, highlighting how horticulture and landscaping can enhance urban spaces, foster well-being, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
The Expo will develop its core theme through four interconnected sub-themes:
-
Co-adaptation – Showcasing the potential of green infrastructure in creating sustainable and resilient urban environments.
-
Coexistence – Promoting a "Green Community" model where people share and support each other through horticulture and agriculture.
-
Co-creation – Encouraging the development of new industries that integrate horticulture, technology, and life sciences.
-
Co-operation – Fostering global exchange and collaboration to achieve a future of multicultural coexistence and environmental harmony.
Since its establishment as an international port in 1859, Yokohama has played a key role in Japan’s horticultural trade, exporting flowers and introducing numerous Western plant varieties. This deep-rooted connection to horticulture makes the city a fitting host for EXPO 2027, where tradition and innovation will come together to shape the future of sustainable urban living.
