As the weather cools down, a wide variety of illumination events begin to pop up at various locations across Japan. One such event is the Sky Lantern Festival at Wakayama Marina City, which is set to run on three Saturdays in late November and early December – November 19th, November 26th, and December 3rd.
At each event, up to 800 glowing lanterns will be released, and they need to be reserved by attendees in advance. This can be organized via the official event website – just be sure to choose the correct date that you want to attend!
Getting there
Wakayama Marina City is located around 40 minutes from Kansai International Airport, or approximately 70 minutes from central Osaka. On-site parking is available and is charged at ¥1500 per vehicle, per day.
For those who are visiting via public transport, the venue is a 15 minute bus ride from Kainan Station which is served by the Kisei Main Line.
