If you're looking for a peaceful escape into nature this rainy season, make your way to Otakiyama Saihoin Temple in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture. Fondly known as Ajisai-dera, or the Hydrangea Temple, this historic spot transforms into a floral wonderland with around 30,000 hydrangeas blooming in vibrant shades of blue, purple, and pink.

To celebrate this fleeting floral moment, the Otakiyama Saihoin Hydrangea Festival will be held during June, with the temple grounds open from 9:00 to 16:00 daily. Admission is free, and visitors are welcome to stroll at their own pace through the hydrangea-lined paths and take in the colors, scents, and sounds of early summer in full bloom.

Built during the Nara period, Otakiyama Saihoin offers more than just seasonal beauty. The ancient grounds are dotted with stone lanterns, a serene waterfall, and the ever-popular hanachozu (a flower-filled water basin), which is perfect for capturing a few Instagram-worthy shots.
