Held from June 14th to 16th, the historic Enma Market in Niigata's Kashiwazaki area draws more than 200,000 visitors each year. Centered around Enma-do Temple on Honmachi Street, the lively event features nearly 500 stalls stretching for several kilometers, offering everything from local street food to games, plants, and traditional crafts.
This long-running tradition traces its roots back over 200 years to the Bunsei era (1818–1830), when it began as a horse market. Over time, the event grew into a bustling street fair and eventually evolved into the vibrant celebration it is today. Bring yen if you plan on making any purchases!
Getting there
The market takes place around 10 minutes on foot from Kashiwazaki Station, which is served by the JR Shinetsu Main Line and Echigo Line.
For those who opt to drive, the area is approximately 10 minutes from the Kashiwazaki IC on the Hokuriku Expressway.
