The shrine is even home to an over 1,000-year-old tree, which serves as a symbol of longevity and good health. Walk around the trunk to add one year to your life.

Atami Sun Beach

Lounge on the sand or join adventurous marine sports at Atami Sun Beach. This scenic 400-meter-long beach is a popular sunbathing and swimming spot and is home to a variety of outdoor activities, such as jet skiing, banana boating, and snorkeling.

Atami Plum Garden (Atami Baien)

Opened in 1886, Atami Plum Garden is famous for having Japan’s earliest blooming plum blossoms, with the flowering season starting from November to early December—much earlier than the typical February to March blooming period in popular tourist destinations like Tokyo and Kyoto. The stunning landscape has over 469 plum trees spanning 60 varieties, and some trees are over 100 years old! Although it is famous for its plum blossoms, the garden shines year-round, offering pleasing greenery in spring and summer and vibrant autumn foliage.

Ryugu Sea Cave (Ryugo-kutsu)

Located in Shimoda, this sea cave has a cute heart-shaped opening when viewed from above, making it a meaningful destination for couples, friends, and families. Inside the cave, there is a small beach surrounded by nature-adorned walls where you can admire the lapping tide and blue skies.

Hashiriyu Hot Spring

Discovered around 1,300 years ago, Hashiriyu Hot Spring is one of Japan’s three oldest hot springs and is known for its rare horizontal tunnel-style source type. The hot spring earned its name Hashiriyu, which translates to “running hot spring,” since the water rushes down the mountainside toward the sea. Every minute, approximately 170 liters of 70°C water pours from the 5-meter-deep cave, creating a steamy, mystical sight.

Atami Castle

Standing 43 meters tall and 160 meters above sea level, Atami Castle offers one of the area’s best panoramic views, with its top floor boasting 360-degree visuals of the city, coastline, and mountains beyond. The view truly captures the Atami’s alluring scenery. The facility also houses a museum about Japanese castles, an ukiyo-e exhibition, an Edo experience floor, and more.

Getting there

From Tokyo, take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Atami Station (45-minute train ride). From there, you can use the hotel’s free shuttle bus service (15-minute ride to hotel). Please note that reservations are required for the shuttle bus and that it only departs at 3:35pm, 4:35pm, and 5:35pm from Atami Station.
