The Fujiko・F・Fujio Museum was opened in 2011, housing an enormous amount of original artwork by the late artist. It takes about an hour to get there from Tokyo but it is well-worth the trip to see the original drawings and take some photos with your favourite Doraemon characters. There are English audio guides available and they lend them out for free so you can understand most of the exhibits. It will take you around 2-3 hours to finish everything and 4 hours if you are taking a meal there.
How to buy the tickets
Tickets need to be bought in advance from Lawson convenient stores equipped with a LOPPI machine and it costs ¥1,000 per adult ticket. I suggest buying them 3-4 days in advance to your visit to ensure that you can get your ideal date and time. There are 4 slots a day to enter the museum: 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. You have to enter within 30mins from the start of your slot and you are welcome to stay inside for as long as you wish until the museum closes at 6pm. Note that they do not operate on Tuesdays.
Although all the instructions on the LOPPI machine is in Japanese, you can ask the sales assistant at the counter for help and they will know what to do. Remember to use a simple English name as the machine may get cranky with complicated names like mine: エヴァンジェリン ネオ.
