Michinoku Geino Festival, Kitakami

Every year, on the first weekend of August, the streets and public places in Kitakami come to life with one of the greatest performing arts festival in Japan. You can see the Onikenbai dancers, Kagura dancers, the Shishi dancers as well as a mikoshi parade.

In a very colourful display of dancers and sounds you can enjoy these cultural treasures at several venues in the city all accessible on foot from the Kitakami Station. It all culminate with a flotilla of paper lanterns on the Kitakami River as well as giant fireworks exploding at the same time. Come and enjoy this amazing festival.
