Overview

The northernmost of central Tokyo's 23 wards, the understated suburban ambience of Adachi City Ward is home to one of Tokyo's largest public parks and some delightfully traditional Japanese gardens. Here is a quick introduction to the parks and gardens of Adachi and how to reach them.

Shoubunuma Park

A brilliant display of some 8000 flowering irises is the major drawcard of Shoubunuma Park. Crisscrossed by walking bridges and water channels, this free park also features cherry blossoms, maple trees and a number of revolving waterwheels and a waterfall. A baseball field in the far corner of the park is a curious surprise.

Higashi Fuchie Teien Garden

Adjacent to the Adachi Historical Museum lies Higashi Fuchie Teien Garden. Along with its pond, this small, but charming strolling Japanese garden offers a flora-rich landscape with about 48 different flower species. A promenade overlooking the pond and a traditional Japanese tea house completes the picture.
