The Kurume Azalea March is Kurume City's largest sports-based event, and it takes place during April when the area's colorful azalea bushes are in full bloom. Designed to help foster good physical and mental health, the march includes walking routes spanning all the way from 5 kilometer to 40 kilometer routes – so whether you're in the mood for a relatively leisurely stroll or want to go all out, there's something for you.
This is a paid entry event, with advance applications (until March 15th) at a slight discount compared to on-the-day applications. For those paying on the day, entry is priced at 2500 JPY for adults, and 1500 JPY for elementary through to high school students.
Getting there
The event starts out from Kurume City Central Park, which can be accessed in around 5 minutes by taxi or 15 minutes on foot from Nishitestu-Kurume Station (served by the Tenjin Ōmuta Line).
