Ueno is a destination that doesn't lack shopping options, and whether you want to experience a traditional market like Ameya Yokocho or enjoy the convenience of a mall within a train station, this part of the city has you covered. Another mall option you'll find in the area is Ueno Marui, a chic complex in close proximity to public transport.

Spanning a massive 11 floors, the complex is home to a myriad of different retailers — there are stores for men's, women's and children's clothing, beauty and cosmetics, bags and accessories, and plenty more. You'll also find large branches of the home furnishings chain Nitori on the 8th floor, LOFT on the 5th floor, and Muji on the 2nd floor basement.

Foodies don't miss out here either, with the mall boasting numerous restaurants and cafes for visitors to enjoy. Whether you want a quick sweet treat at Cinnabon or Baskin Robbins, or a full sit-down meal at one of the eateries on the 9th floor, you definitely won't be going hungry after your shopping expeditions.

Along with the permanent line-up of stores and restaurants, the mall frequently has pop-up shops taking place for limited timeframes. These are listed in advance on the mall's official website, so it's worth taking a peek at what's on offer before your visit.

For travelers, Ueno Marui also offers free WiFi which can be used in 30 minute increments up to 5 times a day, and tax-free shopping in certain stores on presentation of your passport.

Getting there

Ueno Marui is located just two minutes on foot from Ueno Station.

For those who opt to drive, the closest parking lot is the Ueno Parking Center, which is charged at a rate of 250 yen per 30 minute increment. Parking can be validated based on purchases within the Ueno Marui complex.
