Looking for a fun way to beat the heat in Tokyo this summer? Head to Kiba Park in Koto Ward for the Koto Craft Kakigori & Water Festival, a family-friendly two-day event happening in early August. Hosted by Park Community Kibaco, this festival is all about cooling off with craft shaved ice, water games, and hands-on workshops.
Expect a wide variety of food and drink stalls from local favorites, with everything from handmade kakigori to yakisoba and ice cream. Kids can dive into summer-themed activities like a build-your-own water gun workshop, or join a new water sport called suifusen. Inspired by dodgeball, this friendly splash battle welcomes elementary and junior high school students, with shaved ice prizes up for grabs.
Visitors can also join a fun quiz rally tied to the nearby Tomioka Hachiman Shrine annual festival. Kids who answer all the questions correctly will receive a small prize, all while learning about the area's rich cultural traditions.
Other highlights include a wooden toy play zone, and summer-themed goods available for purchase such as sunglasses and beach sandals. Changing tents are available, so come prepared to get wet and have fun.
The event runs from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm rain or shine, and admission is free. Please note that some activities may have a small fee or limited capacity.
