A Tokyo-based café that changes with the seasons

If you're the kind of person who really appreciates photogenic cafés, one worth checking out in Tokyo is the Haute Couture Café. Centrally located along the Meguro River, the café specializes in aesthetically pleasing afternoon teas with surroundings that are equally as stunning.

There is a real focus on seasonality with both the décor and the food presentation at Haute Couture. For instance, at the moment they are hosting an autumn-themed afternoon tea, which incorporates fresh fruits like grapes, pears, and blackcurrants along with chestnut and pumpkin-based desserts. The autumn decorations include a tunnel of bright red maple leaves, adding to the appeal of a visit here. Rewind to earlier in the year, and their afternoon teas incorporated pastel tones of pink and purple for cherry blossom and wisteria seasons respectively.

For those planning to visit for this year's autumn afternoon tea event, the menu lineup includes desserts such as a chestnut and sweet potato Mont Blanc, a panna cotta with orange sauce, and a muscat grape tart. There are savory items as well, with the bacon and mushroom gnocchi and the hamburger steak with sweet potato mash standing out as highlights.

If you don't live near Tokyo but you're still based in Japan, the café has some of their sweets available for online purchase. The beautiful way they're presented makes them ideal for gifting, or just for a treat yourself moment.

To make a reservation for a seasonal afternoon tea at Haute Couture Café, please visit their Tabelog page here (in Japanese). Please also note that children under elementary school age are restricted from visiting the venue if you plan to visit.

Getting there

Haute Couture Café is located an easy six minutes on foot from Nakameguro Station, which is served by the Tōkyū Tōyoko Line and the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
