On the street of Kappabashi you'll find a café that feels a bit out of place, but yet invites you to come in and see what's going on there.
Sharing its building with architects and design firm Sturdy Style, Bridge is a café that's all about having a good drink in a pleasant and well designed environment. In fact, houses are being designed at this place right in the back while you enjoy your iced caffe latte in the front. The philosophy of Sturdy Style is that the interior design and style have to be involved as soon as the architect starts to draw the lines of a house or building. It gives a great balance to the finished product.
This is also something you'll notice when entering this café. It contains the right colors, a pleasant balance in the arrangement, and a good temperature. You just feel at home, and when you do, it's time to explore - but first, maybe let yourself enjoy what you came for, a coffee, a tea or some ice cream, while planning your living future.
The main choices are hot coffees (starting at ¥430), iced coffees and juices (starting at ¥480), or ice cream coffees (starting at ¥400). You can get your drink accompanied by snacks such as a muffin (¥350) or a sandwich (¥450). Also recommended is the hot lemonade (¥430), which tastes like a drink that should get you healthy if you have a cold. If you keep thinking like that, it should work.
As I promised, you'll feel like you’re at home at Bridge & Sturdy Style. You already have taken some time to look around, and you saw the people working in the back. So now give yourself a walk to the first floor to end up in a showroom of sturdy styles. You will see miniature concept houses made out of cardboard and small living rooms with well designed furniture. You can actually book these little booths to have meetings, and also up here you'll find a room where you can read about design.
Bridge is open from 10:00 to 19:00, Thursday to Monday. It might seem a bit out of place on Kappabashi street, but since there are few places there to have a break, this place actually fits perfectly in among the sharp knives and plastic food. To visit this open house, take a subway to Tawaramachi Station and go to Kappabashi street. Keep walking on the left side of the street and you reach the café after 600 meters.
