Sweet potatoes are a popular food in Japan for various reasons. They're packed full of vitamins and minerals, they can be used in both sweet and savory dishes, and they're delicious to boot. The Summer Potato Festival in Shizuoka is a celebration of all things sweet potato related, and the two-day event this July is expected to attract anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 visitors.
There will be a variety of sweet potato themed foods on offer, sweet potato inspired play areas for children, and stage performances. There is no admission fee to enjoy the atmosphere of the event, but bring yen if you plan on purchasing food and drinks.

Getting there
The festival takes place at Shizuoka's Sumpu Castle Park and Fujimi Lawn Square. The venues are located approximately 12 minutes on foot from Shin-Shizuoka Station on the Shizuoka Railway, or around 15 minutes on foot from JR Shizuoka Station.
