Modern and Traditional Osaka

A one-day visit to the city

Osaka is one of the biggest cities of Japan and I could spend a month there exploring the city and learning its history and modern life, but I had only one day at my disposal. So I decided to see something modern and something traditional that is very typical for Japanese cities.

My first place was the modern skyscraper, Umeda Sky Building with the Floating Garden Observatory. The building inspired by futuristic projects of the past and looked quite futuristic and unlike any other buildings. The view of the city was breathtaking and the impression was enhanced by the wind as the observation desk was roofless.

Looking for something traditional I made my way to the Shinto shrine, Sumiyoshi Taisha by tram. In the shrine I was fortunate to watch a few wedding ceremonies, a ceremony featuring babies and photo sessions of people dressed in beautiful kimono. I had lunch in a public park near Sumiyoshi Taisha with many people relaxing around me.

The last place I visited during this one-day trip was the Osaka Aquarium. Visiting aquariums is a must for me. I love them! SInce it was the weekend, it was crowded with happy kids, parents and couples. That day ended with a beautiful sunset reflected in the water and with Osaka okonomiyaki for dinner.

It was one enjoyable and happy day!
