If you are an expat living in Osaka or an international student from the South East Asian countries, this article is for you!
Osaka Spice & Halal Food not only imports spices directly from India, they also sell different flavors of chutney, ghee and even henna paste! Opened in July just this year, the shop has attracted many Malaysians and Indonesians who want that little piece of home. Some of its customers include Japanese students and chefs too. The store is located 5-10 minutes walk from Osaka Station. If you do not speak Japanese, here is some quick advice for you: the directions to the street are clear, however once you are there, you should look up at the windows on the 3rd floor for the store poster so you know exactly which building to enter.
After climbing up 3 floors, you can refer to a map showing you the floor plan. Once you have reached the shop, you will realize that the interior is very basic, but I guess what really counts is the food they sell there. From spice blends to crackers to Top Baking Powder, you will surely be able to find ingredients to satisfy your cravings. Great news for our Muslim friends, Halal meat imported from Australia is also available although they only have mutton for now.
Owner Anup Poudel has been living in Japan for 11 years and has worked with companies such as Hyatt Regency Osaka and Intercontinental Osaka. Having met many guests from around the world and understanding their needs, he decided to open this shop. Anup has plans to open a new branch in the coming year!
So head on over to Osaka Spice & Halal Food and save on that plane ticket back home!
