Venue : Beppu Ropeway When : Early Jan 2025

In Japan, the first sunrise of the year, known as hatsuhinode, holds profound cultural and spiritual significance. The cherished tradition symbolizes hope, renewal, and the dawn of a fresh start, and you can enjoy it via the Beppu Ropeway at the top of Mount Tsurumi-dake.

The ropeway's normal business hours usually commence from 9am, but on January 1st they're opening at 5am. If you need an extra push to get out of bed early, the first 1000 visitors for the day will receive a special zodiac bell and a hand warmer as a souvenir.

Round-trip fare on the ropeway is priced at 1800 JPY for adults (1700 JPY for seniors), and 900 JPY for children.

Getting there

Beppu Ropeway can be accessed in around 20 minutes by bus from Beppu Station, which is served by the JR Nippo Main Line.

For those visiting by car, take the Beppu interchange on the Higashi Kyushu Expressway. From there, follow route 11 towards Yufuin for about 5 minutes.
