It has been 30 years since Hyogo's Himeji Castle received UNESCO World Heritage status, and the castle will be hosting a beautiful illumination event to celebrate the honor. The event will run for 20 days from Wednesday, November 22nd until Monday, December 11th, and it centers around the theme "history connected by light".
The fusion of light, water, and music will be available to view at Himeji Castle's Sannomaru Square from 5:45 pm until 9:15 pm (last entries at 9 pm) during the event dates, and there is an admission fee of 500 JPY.
Getting there
Himeji Castle's Sannomaru Square can be accessed in around 20 minutes on foot from Himeji Station, which is served by the Sanyo Shinkansen, the Sanyo Main Line, the Bantan Line, and the Kishin Line.
Buses are also available from the station area (head out the north exit) to the castle area – the travel time by bus is around 10 minutes.
