One of Japan’s first international ports, significant foreign influences made Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture’s (兵庫県, Hyōgo-ken) capital, a city not like many others in Japan – it has a Chinatown, while many Western-style residences of foreigners during the Meiji Period are still preserved in the Kitano district. Arima Onsen is one of Japan’s oldest hot springs, while the view from Mount Maya is absolutely marvelous.

Outside of Kobe, other tourist spots in Hyogo include the spectacular Himeji Castle and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Go take in a show by the famous Takarazuka Revue, or if you’re visiting in August, see the dramatic Koshien High School Baseball Championship at Koshien Stadium as well.
