Ainu Traditional Dance is a unique dance performance by indigenous Ainu from Tohoku, Hokkaido, Sakhalin, and Kurile Islands. We can see this performance at “Theater Icoro” near Lake Akan, Hokkaido. A 30-minute performance is given a few times a day starting at 11:00 AM from May to October. The Ainu have performed these ethnic dances in rituals and celebrations or other times for more than 800 years. They sing their unique songs while clapping their hands to the music.
