Each year during spring, Senkoji Park in Onomichi is home to over 1000 cherry trees in bloom. The park is listed as one of Japan's Top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots, and aside from the pretty pink sakura there are some stunning views over the surrounding area to enjoy.

For those who are planning a springtime visit, there are also numerous azalea bushes that bloom here. Sometimes when the conditions are right, both the cherry blossom and the azaleas can be enjoyed at the same time.

Do note like all flower events, the times to see the blooms at their best can differ from year to year. Based on previous years, plan for the last 10 days of March.

Getting there

Due to the park being a popular cherry blossom spot and on-site parking being limited, visitors are advised to utilize public transport wherever possible.

The closest station to the park is Onomichi Station, served by the Sanyo Main Line. From there, it's around a 15 minute walk or five minute cab ride away. There is also a ropeway to access the park - keep this in mind if walking up a steep hill is difficult.
