Running for almost two decades now, the Kurume Light Festival features an impressive 400,000 LED lights decorating various spots across the city center. The lights will be illuminated from 5 pm until midnight during the event, and the majority of them are blue in color. This was by design, with the organizers drawing inspiration from the Chikugo River which flows through the region.
As the illuminations are in public spaces there is no fee to enjoy them, so be sure to stop by if you're in the area.
Getting there
The Kurume Light Festival takes place at several destinations across Kurume City, focusing on Meiji-dori and Nishitetsu Kurume Station's East Exit. The station is served by the Nishi-Nippon Railroad's Tenjin Ōmuta Line.
