Kanchogai Street in Aomori's Towada City has been listed as one of Japan's Top 100 roads, and over 150 cherry trees line the route alongside numerous pine trees. In addition to all of the natural beauty, there are also various contemporary art pieces on the sidewalks.
When the cherry trees are looking their best, the annual Towada City Spring Festival takes place, and along with the trees there will be a variety of other activities to enjoy along the street–flea market stalls, stage performances, and even a tea ceremony experience are some of the highlights.
There is no admission fee to enjoy the atmosphere of the event, but do bring yen if you plan on making any purchases.
Getting there
The Towada area can be accessed by bus from Shichinohe-Towada Station, with the travel time taking just over 30 minutes.
Night bus services from Tokyo to Towada are also available via Willer Express.
