Autumn is synonymous with harvesting, as fields unveil golden crops and orchards bear fruit. Many events across Japan celebrate the bounty of the season, including the Towada Autumn Festival, a three-day affair which is filled with colorful floats, mikoshi (portable shrine) parades, taiko drumming performances, and traditional yosakoi dancing.
Getting there
The event takes place around Sanbongi Boulevard and the Towada City Government Office. The general area can be accessed in around 20 minutes by taxi from Shichinohe-Towada Station, which is served by the Tohoku Shinkansen line.
For those who opt to drive, there will be several parking lots set up to accommodate visitors. Parking will be charged at 200 yen per vehicle, and some of the lot locations are listed below:
- Towada General Sports Center parking lot (approx. 150 vehicles)
- Towada Civic Cultural Center parking lot (approx. 200 vehicles)
- Nishi Nibancho parking lot (approx. 100 vehicles)
- Kitazono parking lot (approx. 250 vehicles)
