First held in 2021, the Fuji Textile Week event was designed to revitalize traditional industries and support the local Fujiyoshida community. This part of Yamanashi Prefecture has been a textile-producing region for over a thousand years, and the legacy of this continues to influence the city's identity.
Billing itself as the only textile art event in Japan, the exhibition – which actually runs for almost a month – will include a variety of fabric-based works on display from both domestic and international creators. In addition, there will be sales of fabric for anyone wanting to stock up for some DIY projects.
This is a paid event, with adult admission priced at 1200 yen. Tickets can be arranged ahead of time online, but they can also be purchased at the venue on the day.
Getting there
The event takes place around Shimoyoshida Honmachi Street in Fujiyoshida City, which can be accessed in around 10 minutes on foot from Shimoyoshida Station (Fujikyuko Line).
