Iwakuni Air Base is a crucial military installation for the United States in the Asia-Pacific region, and is known for its state-of-the-art facilities and strong partnership with the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. The Iwakuni Friendship Day event sees the base open its gates to the general public to celebrate US-Japan relations, with entertainment and food to enjoy.
Visitors will be able to try American favorites like hot dogs, burgers, brisket sandwiches, and spare ribs, view impressive aircraft displays (including the Japanese Self-Defense Force's "Blue Impulse" aerobatic demonstration team), or even allow the kids to enjoy the dedicated play areas – this is a family friendly affair!
Please note that while this is an open base event, ID will still be checked. Acceptable ID forms can be found on the official event website.
Getting there
The closest station to the base is Iwakuni Station, which is served by the Sanyo Main Line and the Gantoku Line – it's around 30 minutes away on foot.
Please note that no public parking is available at the event. Additionally, per the City of Iwakuni, please do not park in the surrounding neighborhoods – vehicles that do not belong in surrounding neighborhoods may be ticketed.
