Held on the second weekend of February each year, the Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival sees Matsugasaki Park and its surrounds decorated with the soft glow of around 200 snow lanterns and 1000 snow lamps. Along with the ethereal atmosphere of the lights, the event includes a variety of food vendors serving up local specialties such as Yonezawa ramen and Yonezawa beef.
Getting there
The event takes place around the Matsugasaki Park area in Yonezawa City. The park can be accessed in 10 minutes by shuttle bus from Yonezawa Station (one way adult fare is 200 yen with departures approximately every 20 minutes), or around 15 minutes by car from the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway's Yonezawa-kita IC for those who opt to drive.
