The Tanabe Festival takes place every summer in Tanabe City. On the 24th and 25th of July a series of processions are carried out in the city from the earliest hours of the day. These are called Mikoshi-togyo, which usually end in Egawa Port. From 7 pm to 9 pm, the surroundings of Tokei Jinja shrine, near the commercial area, get filled with food and toy stalls. In this place, on the night of the 25th, the Omiya-iri ritual takes place, in which the carriages enter the sanctuary through a sacred gate. During the festival most boys and girls go out to enjoy the festivities dressed in their best summer kimonos.
