The Brooklyn Museum’s Egypt collection is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the United States, and a variety of their pieces are making their way to Tokyo's Mori Arts Center Gallery for a limited time. The Unraveling the Mysteries of Ancient Egypt exhibition features around 150 artifacts, offering a glimpse into the advanced culture of this ancient civilization.
Exhibition attendees will be able to experience a unique exploration of ancient Egyptian life, focusing on aspects often overlooked in previous displays. The event will be set up in three key stages—the first stage provides insights into the daily lives of the ancient Egyptians, highlighting their living environment, diet, work habits, grooming, and child-rearing practices, as well as uncovering connections to modern life.
The second stage shifts focus to the pharaohs, showcasing works related to 12 kings from the 3,000-year dynasty, including notable figures like King Khufu and Ramses II. This section delves into their grandeur through monumental architecture, such as pyramids and temples, and uncovers the latest research on pyramid construction and their original appearance.
The final stage explores ancient Egypt's beliefs surrounding life after death. It features human and animal mummies, beautiful grave goods, and funeral artifacts, offering a deep dive into the ancient Egyptians' views on death, resurrection, and the afterlife.
The exhibition will also include a variety of merchandise available for purchase.
After the Tokyo event, the exhibition will move on to the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art and the Toyota City Museum in Aichi.
