Tokyo is a hugely popular city for travel, and for numerous reasons. Whether it's the cultural richness, the incredible culinary scene, the safety and ease of getting around, or the ever-present omotenashi bringing a whole new level to hospitality, there are plenty of motivating factors that attract travelers to this part of the world.

It seems that TripAdvisor community members are in agreeance with that sentiment, with the city taking top spot on their recently released Trending Destinations awards. The TripAdvisor team mentioned part of Tokyo's appeal lies in the blend of tradition-meets-modernity, where visitors can "wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar." The food element was also highlighted, with travelers encouraged to eat their fill of tastebud tempting eats like sushi, udon, and wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets).

The nature-based side of Tokyo was also promoted, with cherry blossoms along the Sumida River and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace a couple of noteworthy additions to their write-up. It's a great reminder that even though Tokyo is the world's largest city, there are still plenty of ways to get your fix of green space!

Getting there

Tokyo can be reached by air via either Tokyo International Airport (HND) or Narita International Airport (NRT), the latter of which is located in neighboring Chiba Prefecture. Both airports have rail connectivity to the center of the city.
