The banks of Tokyo's Sumida River are lined with cherry blossom trees, and the waterway has been a popular sakura viewing destination since the Edo period. If you're looking for a unique way to appreciate the best of the river's blossoms from a different vantage point, consider the limited-time Sakura Train event from Tobu Railways.
The company will be operating a special Sakura Train between Asakusa Station and Tokyo Sky Tree Station every day from March 20th until March 31st, with four separate departure times (12:15, 13:35, 14:15, and 16:35). The route will be deliberately slower than normal, allowing passengers on board to soak up all of the seasonal beauty. It's normally a three minute journey, but the Sakura Train event stretches it out to double that–so although it's a relatively quick ride, it is jam-packed with blossoms!
Standard route fares apply. You can get an idea of what to expect from the Sakura Train via the video below (please note that the footage is from spring 2022).
