Asakusa is a treasure trove of Japanese history and tradition. With its many festivals and events, the neighborhood has prospered as a downtown area of Tokyo since before the Edo period. The Japanese-style inn Ryokan Asakusa Mikawaya provides the perfect port of rest for any Tokyo traveler. This bustling area encapsulates old Edo with sites like Sensoji while the modern world looms high above at the nearby Tokyo Sky Tree. All of these attractions make Asakusa a very attractive place to visit and stay.
The ryokan
Location is everything. And Ryokan Asakusa Mikawaya leaves nothing to be desired with its perfect home; being only a two-minute walk from Exit 1 of Asakusa Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line ensures that you will have access to not only the Asakusa area but all of Tokyo and beyond. Other nearby lines include the Toei Subway, Tobu Isesaki Line, and Tsukuba Express. The location puts you within perfect walking distance from Nakamise Street and Sensoji Temple.
This charming ryokan or Japanese inn has 15 guest rooms available, providing a more at-home experience than other large hotels and ensures a quieter, more relaxing stay. Choose from traditional tatami mat rooms that give off a refreshing and comforting scent or stay in a Western-style room (single or twin).
Amenities
All of the guest rooms come equipped with a bath, toilet, and shower so there is no need for sharing. And with access to an in-house FAX machine and wireless LAN, this could easily be your “work”cation wonderland. Visitors will also find on-site coin laundry machines and free coffee and tea at the first-floor lobby.
If you find yourself needing a snack, there is a convenience store located only one minute by foot; nearby, you’ll also find a bank, post office, and 24-hour supermarket. Whether you’re coming to the area on business or for pleasure, Asakusa Mikawaya is sure to be a great foothold in the city.
Highlights from the owner
The owner, Chikako Tobita, is pleased to be able to rent out rooms of her ancestral home. A family business for more than seventy years, Mikawaya has entertained guests from abroad many years and, indeed, there are several repeat guests who love coming back to the warm embrace of Mikawaya.
Depending on the time of the year, guests can expect to see a booming neighborhood full of excitement, such as when it’s time for Sanja Matsuri or fireworks festivals. Ryokan Asakusa Mikawaya aims to provide warm Japanese hospitality to every visitor so that you will want to visit again and again.
Stamp Rally
Ryokan Asakusa Mikawaya is currently conducting a stamp rally campaign. Guests can obtain a stamp booklet (tenugui) and collect stamps from other eligible inns. After gathering six stamps on your card (tenugui), show this to the hotel concierge for a free gift. The stamp rally and gifts vary by hotel and season and may not always be available.
