On an unassuming backstreet of Adachi-ku, not too far from JR Kita Senju Station, Necodan presents itself as a hidden delight. To the passerby Necodan could be just another gift shop, but to the cat-lover, Necodan is much more...
Necodan is a gift store specializing in cat-themed gifts and sundries. Upon entering the store, it is easy to be overwhelmed. With Necodan's two stories of cat goodness, even the least avid of cat lovers could spend hours amused by browsing the store's unique specialties.
This whole magical cat haven is the inception of store owner and self-professed cat lover, Hori Shogo. Hori Shogo is an inspiration for cat lovers worldwide for his love and dedication to the 'nyan' (the Japanese onomatopoeic word for 'meow'). He has created in here something truly special. There are items to suit every budget starting from gifts of a few hundred yen, to the more elaborate. Whatever you're looking for, you're sure to find it here, with approximately 1,500 cat-themed gifts available for purchase!
The majority of goods can be found on the lower floor, which contains smaller gift items and miscellaneous cat memorabillia, for example: bookmarks, clothes driers, stationery, and other assorted gifts. Climbing up the staircase lined by cat-faced umbrellas, you will arrive at the second floor which hosts the larger items in the store, predominantly backpacks and handbags (for cat lovers with the coolest of cat style). My favorite item is a large handbag in the shape of a cat's face - even with the little ears attached! On the second floor, a mirror in the corner of the room stands invitingly for customers to view themselves fashioning the stylish cat wares of ultimate feline goodness.
Necodan is open every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm, except for regular holidays and the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. It can be accessed within 10 minutes walking distance from JR Kita-Senju Station, which is a transit point for the Joban Line, Chiyoda Line, Hibiya Line, the Tsukuba Express and the Tobu Skytree Line.
For fans of our feline friends then look no further than Adachi-ku's Necodan!
