If you're looking for a fun way to spend a weekend this October, the Jiyugaoka Megami Festival is a great event to check out. The annual festival has been running for 50 years now, and focuses on delicious food and cultural performances.
This year's event includes Sylvanian Families stage shows – perfect for those visiting with children in tow – plus performances by the Jiyugaoka Baton Club, the Jiyugaoka Gakuen High School Brass Band, and the United States Seventh Fleet Band (a military-affiliated group comprised of professional navy musicians) to name just a few.
The full performance schedule can be found on the official website. There is no admission fee to enjoy the performances, but bring some yen if you plan to grab a bite to eat at one of the food vendors.
Getting there
The event takes place at Jiyugaoka Station square, located just outside Jiyugaoka Station (Tokyu Toyoko Line and the Tokyu Oimachi Line).
