So, you finally arrived in Japan. But unfortunately, you don't have any internet connection and you don't know how to get to your accommodation. Here is your solution: Ninja Wi-Fi.
It's pretty easy to get one. Once you are on their website, click "Get yours".
You will then be able to order one of these small but useful devices. You just need to choose when you will collect and return the device, at your convenience. The Ninja Wi-Fi is available at several different major Japanese airports including Haneda, Narita and Kansai international airport. If it suits you better, you can also choose the delivery option. The delivery service costs only ¥500 (+ tax), takes 3 days between order and pick-up date, and can deliver your Wi-Fi to any Japanese address.
Prices vary depending on the renting period since the standard rate for a day is ¥900 (+ tax) without insurance and battery.
There are two types of insurance:
- Full Insurance (¥300/day + tax)
- Mini Insurance (¥200/day + tax) that covers 80%
The insurance works in case of damage or loss, if you provide a notification of loss. The insurance is not an obligation, and purely optional depending on what suits you better. A package including full insurance and battery cost ¥400/day (+ tax).
The external battery could interest you if you're on the go for longer periods of time. This way, the router can be charged along with all your other equipment. It supports USB charging. Furthermore, if you have any problem or question during your trip, or if you lose some part of your Ninja Wi-Fi or break it, you can easily call their friendly Customer Services hotline on 050 5533 8264 (from 9am–11pm).
It is pretty simple to get and very useful on the go. I'm using it right now to write this and I can tell you that it's working well. A new friend who I've met here in Japan used it while climbing Mount Fuji and he was even connected on the top of the mountain, Skyping with a friend to show him the rising sun. Pretty amazing!
