Feel like brushing up on your skills before an appearance on the popular Ninja Warrior TV show? There’s no better place to test your dexterity than on the Field Athletic Course in Heiwa no Mori Park, a forested area a ten-minute walk from the Heiwajima train station on the Keihin Kyuko Line.
The Heiwa no Mori Field Athletic Course offers over 40 different obstacles scattered throughout the sprawling, shaded site. Challenges range from conquering climbing nets and scaling high walls to crossing swinging bridges and utilizing various ziplines. A separate section, reached via a walkway over the road that bisects the park, focuses on water-based trials. You can attempt to cross the pond on a series of swaying log rafts or try your hand at paddling one of the stand-up barrel boats.
While most of the park’s obstacles are designed for elementary-aged visitors and above, there is a small section just outside the paid-entry part of the park that offers younger children the opportunity to showcase their own skills on a collection of simple wood and rope obstacles. If little ones are up to the challenge of the main park, it’s advisable to bring a change of clothes.
The sprawling grounds of the park provide plenty of space in which to picnic. Vending machines provide basic snacks and a variety of drinks but visitors are free to bring in a bento or other options for a more substantial meal.
Entrance to the Heiwa no Mori Field Athletic Course is ¥360 for adults and a highly affordable ¥100 for children. The park is open from 9:30 until 16:00, with the last entrance at 15:00. The park is closed on Mondays, and occasional maintenance can sometimes mean that one or more of the myriad obstacles are off-limits.
