Cosmos Festival at Showa Kinen Park

Thousands of colorful faces bid adieu to summer

Showa Kinen Park is a stunning park and Tokyo’s largest. It’s known for its beautiful autumn foliage that draws in crowds every year. But did you know there’s also a gorgeous festival for the cosmos flower—also dubbed, autumn sakura.

Over 70,000 cosmos flowers bloom in an array of pinks, reds, and yellows to create a collage of dabs of colors. Something straight out of a Monet almost. These brightly colored flowers can be enjoyed from mid-September to the end of October.

This is one of the last chances to see flowers blooming before those dreary and cold winter months set in, so we recommend taking advantage of the cooling temperatures and make your way to Showa Kinen Park. Admission is only 410 yen.

That isn’t to say the park has nothing to offer the rest of the year. Indeed, it draws in huge crowds for the colored leaves and other flower festivals hosted there—but there’s something bittersweet and charming about the cosmos flowers that take the stage just as summer comes to a close.
