Arriving bright and early before the break of dawn, I was lucky enough to get here in time to see a fine mist still looming over one of Nikko's highest lakes.
Standing at 1475 meters above sea level, Lake Yunoko forms a pivotal part of the Yumoto hot spring resort where Japanese people have been coming since the 8th Century.
Although you can find many Ryokan's and Hotels, this area has managed to avoid much of the mass commercialism like its larger cousin Lake Chuzenji, providing a more relaxing and worthwhile experience for anyone venturing this far.
