Hamamatsu has long celebrated as one of Japan's gyoza capitals, and the city is set to host the Hamamatsu Shusse Castle Gyoza Festival this autumn. Known nationwide for its pan-fried dumplings, Hamamatsu has consistently ranked at the top of the country's annual gyoza consumption charts, earning a reputation as a city where gyoza is not just a meal but part of the local identity.

The festival will take place at Aoi Square beside Hamamatsu Castle Park, a location that blends food culture with historical scenery. More than 30 restaurants are expected to gather, including hometown favorites as well as popular eateries from across the country. Visitors can sample freshly cooked gyoza showcasing regional flavors, from classic pork and cabbage fillings to more adventurous variations created just for the event.

The Hamamatsu Shusse Castle Gyoza Festival has not been held on this scale in several years, making its return a highly anticipated event for both residents and travelers. Event details and updates can be found through the official website, and while there is no admission fee to attend, do bring yen if you plan on doing some gyoza sampling.

Getting there

Aoi Square is located around 10 minutes by taxi or approximately 20 minutes on foot from Hamamatsu Station, which is served by the Tokaido Shinkansen and the Tokaido Main Line.
