Each year in June, the Higashi Sanbin Flower Valley in Shimane is filled with beautiful poppies in shades of red, pink, and white, covering a space of around 10 hectares. An annual festival to celebrate the colorful blooms takes place on the second Sunday in June when the flowers are typically looking their best.

If you're wondering what to expect from the event, you can observe some of the floral beauty from last year on YouTube here. The mountainous surroundings and vast greenery in the area makes for a truly spectacular scene.

For those who may be visiting the area outside of the spring season, do note that the valley also hosts a cosmos festival on the second Sunday of October.

Getting there

As the Higashi Sanbin Flower Valley is in quite a rural location, accessibility is most convenient by car. The valley is around 70 minutes by car from the Chugoku Expressway's Miyoshi IC.
