Located in Kumamoto, Tsuetate Onsen is a traditional hot spring village founded in the 1800s. The charming onsen town is one of the main tourist attractions in the region, attracting visitors from all over the country with its rustic buildings and natural hot springs Part of the charm of Tsuetate Onsen is the Showa period alleys that visitors can stroll through to step back in time.
As you stroll through the city's back streets, known as Sedoyas in Japanese, you'll find photos from the glory days of Tsuetate Onsen hanging on the walls of buildings like a public gallery from the Showa era.
The city is the scene of numerous celebrations throughout the year. There are e.g. a fire festival in January and in April / May you can stop by the colorful carp festival.
