The Osaka Municipal Museum of Fine Arts is set to host a one-of-a-kind exhibition, Van Gogh's Home: The Painters Legacy, The Family Collection, The Ongoing Story, from July 5th to August 31st, 2025. This unique showcase will offer an intimate look at how the works of Vincent van Gogh, one of the most iconic artists in history, have been preserved and passed down through generations of his family.
The exhibition centers on the pivotal role played by Van Gogh’s brother, Theo, who supported Vincent's career and kept much of his artwork. Tragically, Theo passed away just six months after Vincent, but his wife continued the mission to protect and promote his legacy. Their son, Vincent Willem, went on to establish the Vincent van Gogh Foundation in Amsterdam, which houses the world-renowned Van Gogh Museum.
This exhibition will feature more than 30 of Van Gogh’s masterpieces, many on loan from the Van Gogh Museum. It will also showcase a rare opportunity to view four of Van Gogh's personal letters, offering a deeper understanding of the artist’s life and thoughts. It is the first exhibition in Japan to focus exclusively on the Van Gogh family collection, making it an unmissable event for art lovers.
If you can't make the Osaka event, never fear—the exhibition will also be available in Tokyo and Aichi. Catch it at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum from September 12th to December 21st, 2025, and at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art from January 3rd to March 23rd, 2026. Also, please note that ticket prices have not yet been announced for the event, so keep an eye on the official exhibition website for updates.
