The Kongō Range is a series of mountains on the borders of Nara and Osaka Prefectures on the island of Honshu. Part of the Kongō-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park, the primary mountain in the range is Mount Kongo. Standing at 1125 metres, Mount Kongo is the higher than any point in Osaka.
This is an easy day trip from central Osaka and you can take either the Kintetsu Line to Tondabayashi Station or the Nankai Line to Kawachinago Station and change to the Kongo bus or Nankai bus respectively. Both buses terminate at the ropeway station, where you can either hike up the mountain or take a ropeway up to the peak.

I still clearly remember the day I first landed in Japan, and since then it has been my goal to set foot in all 47 prefectures. I try to look for less touristy areas, preferring the countryside to the city. I'm always amazed by the many Haagen Dazs and ice cream flavors available only in Japan.
