Indigo dye comes with a unique, striking blue color, and it has a long history in Japan. A special exhibition taking place at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum will look into indigo dyeing and weaving techniques from all around the world, with a special focus on the ancient indigo manufacturing method and its background in Okinawa. The event will also showcase a variety of dyed and woven products that were created using Okinawa indigo.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 1000 yen.

Getting there

The Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum is located around 10 minutes on foot from Omoromachi Station, served by the Okinawa Urban Monorail (Yui Rail).

Buses are also available to the museum. From Naha Airport, take bus 99 and alight at the Omoromachi 3-Chome bus stop. The museum is around 5 minutes on foot from there.

For those who plan to drive, free parking is available on-site.
