If you're after a fun family day out in Niigata City, the Marinepia Aquarium is great for kids and kids at heart. There are a wide range of displays, including hands-on exhibits where you can get up close with various sea creatures. The aquarium also boasts sea lion and penguin feeding demonstrations, and dolphin shows where you can see an amazing array of tricks they can perform.
The aquarium also has an on-site restaurant with plenty of child friendly fare. One of the kids sets for instance, has curry rice with the rice shaped like a dolphin. The restaurant offers age appropriate bowls, plates, cutlery and seating for your little ones.
Getting there
The Niigata City Marinepia Aquarium is located around 15 minutes taxi ride from JR Niigata Station, or about 10 minutes taxi ride from JR Hakusan Station. A bus also runs from Niigata Station to the aquarium. Look for the Suizokukan Line bus and take it until the last stop which is the aquarium itself. Bus travel time from the station to the aquarium is approximately 20 minutes.
Alternatively, if you're headed to the venue by private vehicle there is free parking for 600 cars available.
