Todaiji Temple in Nara was opened in 752 and has operated continuously since that time. The Omizutori Ceremony has been taking place at Todaiji's Nigatsu-do Hall on the first of February for almost as long as Todaiji has been open. The Prefecture of Nara and Todaiji Temple are pleased to present a very unique event to anyone wishing to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the history and culture of the Omizutori!
On January 10, 2016 (Sunday), Buddhist Priest and Chief Secretary of Todai-ji Temple Shoshu Hiraoka, will give an in depth presentation and lecture on the Omizutori. The free of charge event will take place, in English, from 3pm-4:30pm on the 2nd floor of the Nara Mahoroba Hall in Nara City. Attendance is limited to 50 people and as the event is expected to draw a great deal of interest, a lottery system will be used to select attendees. Those wishing to attend this rare and special event should apply with their name, age, address and phone number by fax or email to the number or email address below between Dec. 7th - Dec. 28th.
